There are two communal kitchens in Pembridge – one is located on the ground floor of House 28, and one is located in the basement of House 32.
Both kitchens are equipped with stoves, ovens, fridges & freezers, microwaves, toasters, and kettles. Each resident will have their own small cupboard (for which you may want to bring a padlock). You will need to bring your own cutlery and cooking utensils.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING KITCHEN EQUIPMENT. Please do not bring any electrical kitchen equipment (such as rice cookers, hot plates, kettles, toasters, microwaves, …) for your bedroom. Safety regulation prohibits the use of cooking equipment in the bedrooms.
Cleaners will put utensils left on surfaces in the kitchens into the green bins provided (others are for rubbish). You are welcome to retrieve your lost items from the green bins.
Green bins are emptied regularly! If you leave your stuff in them too long they will be emptied and thrown out. The College takes no responsibility for loss of utensils.
Pembridge has secure bike storage facilities which can be accessed using your college card. All Pembridgers do not have automatic access to this storage. To gain access you will need to email Abu Bangura. The college also has secure storage facilities across campus but you will need to register your bike online. There is also other useful information on Imperial College’s cycling page and it is worth a read.
We also recommend that you bring a strong bicycle lock as bicycle theft is common in London. If you don’t yet have one, Imperial security sells strong ‘D’ – Locks at a discounted price.
There are pool and table-tennis tables available in the games room, which are free to use. We usually organize one tournament during the year.
The TV-room is equipped with a large TV, a projector, and a sound system. If you still decide to bring a TV, you are obliged by law to obtain a TV licence. At halls, you are not covered by your parent’s licence. Expensive Hi-Fi equipment may not be covered by the College insurance. Moreover, we do have strict rules on noise in the Hall. This is an old building which means the walls were not made to be noise isolating.
We also have a selection of games, movies, and DVD’s available for your entertainment.
There are several washing machines and driers in the basement of house 28. They are operated using a laundry card (which you will receive on move-in day), which can be topped up online. A normal wash costs £2.20, super wash is £2.70 and the driers cost £1.20.
The laundry room also has 2 irons and ironing boards which are free to use.
