If you haven’t had a Meningitis vaccine, its very important that you receive this when you arrive at Imperial. The Imperial health centre will be running clinics during October where you can easily receive the vaccine.
Make sure to register as an NHS patient with the local GP. In your case this will be the Imperial College Health Centre. The clinic is located in Prince’s Gardens below Southside Halls and has a triage clinic each weekday morning from 8.30 to 10am.
This is a walk-in service, where you can talk briefly with a doctor about more urgent problems that cannot wait for the next appointment. The clinic operates on a queuing system and this may involve a wait. For routine matters, it is better to make an appointment.
There is also an emergency clinic in the afternoon, for problems that cannot wait until the next day. Please contact the Health Centre directly on 020 7584 6301 (24-hour telephone service).
NHS 111 is the national healthline, providing health advice, information and reassurance to all users who have concerns about their health. Just dial 111 from any phone. This is a non-emergency number.
- If you are on campus, it is crucial to remember to alert College Security first by calling 020 7589 1000 or extension 4444 from a College phone. Security will call the emergency services for you and are better prepared to coordinate their arrival to Imperial’s campuses. Emergency contact numbers for the different campuses can be found here – it is a good idea to save the relevant number(s) to your mobile.
- If you are off campus, dial 999 for the emergency services.
If you have any problems that affect your studies, you can contact your personal tutor to inform them. They can provide invaluable advice and can help you with applying for mitigating circumstances. A list of all the personal tutors sorted by department can be found here. The senior tutor for each department oversees the academic tutors and will be able to provide further advice if your personal tutor is unable to for any reason.
Imperial also has four college tutors who can provide confidential support for any student, independent of department. Their details can be found here.
