What to bring?

Be realistic – don’t bring too much. Remember you will only be spending 38 weeks here. Bring essentials such as your books, clothes, some bedding materials (duvet, pillow, linen), basic cooking utensils, etc… Additionally many of you may wish to bring your PC. Have a look at the Facilities page to find out what comes with the room and what is available at Xenia. If you like to listen to loud music, bring some headphones.

What NOT to bring?

There are a few things we sadly can’t allow at Xenia, most of them due to fire regulations and risks. This list isn’t exhaustive, for further details see the residents’ handbook.

  • High Power devices such as kettles, fan heaters, AC units… they overload the electricity system.
  • Fridges and Freezers. Shared fridges and freezers are available in the kitchens.
  • Shishas and similar smoking devices.
  • Drugs.
  • Pets – not even fish.

What happens when I get to Xenia?

Upon arrival, all you have to do is come to the reception area at the entrance. Here a member of the Wardening Team, a Senior or a Hall Manager will greet you. You will be issued your room key, kitchen cupboard keys and a swipe card to give you access to the hall. All we need is your signature and the letter/email you were sent by the accommodation office confirming your place in Xenia.

We will also give you a welcome pack containing the program for Freshers’ week and useful information. If you like, you can sign up for some of the trips and events planned for the first week straight away. If you want to take a look at what will happen in the first week in more detail click here.

No parking is available at Xenia. Therefore, we encourage you to use public transport. If you plan to arrive by car, you will be able to offload your belongings outside the hall but will have to immediately move your car. Someone must remain with the vehicle at all times, and be prepared to move it if required. Nearby parking is available at a fee (for example: UPark, 2 Addington Street, SE1 7RY,
